According to a new study, spotlighting the potential for human cancer treatment, mice with pancreatic cancer treated with a combination of CBD and chemotherapy survived nearly three times longer than those treated with chemotherapy alone.
CBD, more formally regarded as cannabidiol, is the non-intoxicating compound found in the cannabis plant. It has already been showing it’s ability to improve common side effects of chemotherapy, like nausea and vomiting.
CBD’s latest results are showing even more justification for testing in human cancer patients. This research would build on prior animal research that has uncovered CBD’s anti-cancer properties.
CBD has been approved for use in clinics in the United Kingdom (UK), meaning that medical professionals and scientific researchers may test the effects of the therapeutic compound in human clinical trials.
As for the United States, progress is well underway, as the FDA just approved the first CBD-based medication to treat severe forms of epilepsy in children.
Pancreatic cancer is one of the most difficult cancers to treat. It is among the deadliest forms of cancer in the world, in terms of overall cancer survival rates. According to the American Cancer Society, patients with a one-year survival rate make up 20 percent of pancreatic cancer patients, while the five-year survival rate is just below 7 percent. It is the 12th most common cancer globally.
Considering treatment of the deadly cancer, the life expectancy for those with pancreatic cancer has barely changed in the last 40 years because there are very few treatments available. This statement was reported by Dr. Marco Falasca, lead researcher from Queen Mary University of London, in a recent press statement, who added that “the discovery of new treatments and therapeutic strategies is urgently needed.”
Getting back to the actual animal study, the results concluded that the survival rate of mice with pancreatic cancer had tripled after being treated with a combination of CBD and chemotherapy. This constitutes the dire need of continued research of CBD in the medical field. Medical advances, in something as serious of a matter of life and death, are on the horizon, all thanks to the plant-based cannabinoid, CBD.
The Facts From the Study:
- The data from the CBD study in mice indicated inhibition of pancreatic cancer cell growth in cell culture by CBD.
- The mice susceptible to pancreatic cancer given the CBD + chemotherapy treatment prolonged survival 3x the amount as mice given chemotherapy treatment without CBD.
To date, and as we continue to see progressions of the healing compound on humans, studies have linked CBD to significantly reducing pain and anxiety, easing migraine symptoms, improving stroke recovery and decreasing seizure severity and frequency.
Stay tuned to see if and when this study will be replicated in humans.
- Scientific trials on mice show CBD’s massive potential for helping with cancer treatment.
- Research suggests that cancer treatment is most effective when combined with the force of CBD.
- Those that used CBD and chemotherapy survived nearly three times longer than those treated with chemotherapy alone.
- CBD is non-psychoactive and does not produce the “high” that is associated with the consumption of marijuana.
